CoQ10

Mitochondrial fuel for the egg's most energy-hungry moments.

What it is

Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble antioxidant that sits inside the mitochondria and helps generate ATP. Egg maturation is one of the most energy-demanding processes in the body, and natural CoQ10 levels fall steadily with age.

Why it’s used

  • Supports mitochondrial energy production in developing follicles.
  • Acts as an antioxidant against oxidative stress.
  • Frequently used for 3+ months, the length of a full follicular maturation window.
  • Often paired with PQQ, which supports the creation of new mitochondria.

What research says

  • Small randomized trials in people undergoing IVF report improved fertilization rates and higher-quality embryos with CoQ10 pretreatment.
  • Animal studies show CoQ10 supplementation restores mitochondrial function in aged oocytes.
  • In male fertility, meta-analyses report improved sperm concentration and motility with CoQ10.

Typical dose: 200–600 mg daily, taken with a fat-containing meal for absorption.
