Inositols

Myo-Inositol

The insulin-signalling sugar alcohol your ovaries run on.

What it is

Myo-inositol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol (a vitamin-like compound) found in citrus, beans and whole grains, and made by your own body from glucose. Inside the ovary it acts as a second messenger for FSH signalling, which is why it shows up in almost every modern fertility formula.

Why it’s used

  • Supports healthy insulin sensitivity, a key lever in ovulatory function.
  • Involved in FSH signalling and follicle development inside the ovary.
  • Commonly used by people with irregular or unpredictable cycles.
  • Well tolerated at typical doses, with mild GI upset the most reported effect.

What research says

  • Multiple randomized trials in people with PCOS report improved ovulation rates and menstrual regularity with myo-inositol supplementation over 3–6 months.
  • Meta-analyses suggest myo-inositol improves markers of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and may improve oocyte quality measures in ART cycles.
  • Most protocols pair myo-inositol with D-chiro inositol in a 40:1 ratio, mirroring the ratio found in healthy human plasma.

Typical dose: 2,000 mg twice daily (4,000 mg total) is the most studied protocol.
